100 miles. Closed roads. 15,000 cyclists.
On the morning of Sunday September 23, 2018, the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit will welcome 15,000 cyclists onto its hallowed tarmac for the start of the first ever Vélo South – a major new 100 mile closed road sportive for the UK.
Whilst renowned globally as the spiritual home of motorsport, Goodwood is also steeped in cycling history and heritage, being host to the 1982 UCI World Road Racing Championships which featured cycling greats such as Greg LeMond, Sean Kelly, Guiseppe Saronni and the UK’s very own Mandy Jones, winner of the women’s race. Now it’s your turn to follow in their footsteps and feel like a pro for the day at Vélo South!
Riders will travel through the magnificent Goodwood Estate and into the beautiful West Sussex countryside, passing quaint hamlets and villages filled with cheering spectators. After experiencing the panoramic views and unrivalled beauty of the South Downs National Park, a grandstand finish awaits back at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
With circa 1,500m of climbing, Vélo South is relatively challenging but achievable for all, and the support from locals and camaraderie with fellow riders will make for a truly unforgettable day of closed road riding.
