When is Vélo South?

Vélo South takes place on Sunday 23rd September 2018, starting and finishing at Goodwood Motor Circuit.

How do I enter?

General and Fast Track Entries have now sold out but you can still secure your place on the start line via one of our official charities or by entering a company team in our Business 100 challenge.

What is the cost to enter?

Riders can secure a charity place for £40* or a Business 100 Team (£995 for a team of 4).

*subject to a minimum fundraising target of £400

What's the difference between the entry options?

All of our riders get a huge amount for their entry fee, which you can see here.

Fast Track riders also get to start in one of the first waves of the day, receive a car parking spot at Goodwood and have their Rider Pack sent to them ahead of the event.

What's the withdrawal policy?

A participant may withdraw from the event at any time by contacting hello@velosouth.com. No refunds will be payable in the event of a withdrawal at any time.

Participants will be able to transfer their entry to another person up to two months before the event (July 23, 2018). Any transfer to another person will be subject to a transfer fee of £10. Registration will take place at Westgate Leisure Centre in Chichester on Saturday 22nd September between 08:00 and 20:00. All General Entry Riders will need to attend registration in person to collect their Rider Pack (or authorise a third party to collect it for them). If you cannot make this please see the FAQ below.

Fast Track Riders and Business 100 Teams will have their Rider Packs posted to them in advance of the event and will not need to attend registration.

Can someone collect my Rider Pack on my behalf on Saturday 22nd September?

If you can’t personally collect your Rider Pack from Westgate Leisure Centre in Chichester then you can send someone else on your behalf.

You will need to provide them with your Rider Number (issued approximately one month before the event), a photocopy of your ID (e.g. driving licence or passport) and a signed letter of consent.

One person can collect on behalf of multiple riders, providing they have everything listed above.

Can I ride with friends?

Of course! When entries open, you will be able to add a Team Name to your entry and we will do our very best to make sure you all start in the same wave. Make sure you all agree on this ahead of entries opening and be careful to enter the Team Name correctly and consistently!

If you’ve already entered a Team Name you can edit your existing one up until the 23 July 2018. To do this, please login to your Active account (https://passport.active.com/) and add / change your Team Name. Make sure it is entered exactly the same as the others you wish to ride with and we will do our best to put you in the same start wave.

What is the minimum speed riders must maintain?

To comply with road closure timings, riders will be expected to maintain an average speed of 18 kilometres/11 miles per hour.

To get you to the finish in good time we will have multiple feed and water stations, mechanical support, dozens of ‘Domestique’ helpers riding in the pack and cheering crowds across the route. The first riders will depart at 07:00, and all riders must be across the finish line by 18:00.

A sweep vehicle system will be in place to collect any riders who fall behind this time limit or otherwise cannot continue due to injury, fatigue, mechanical failure, etc.

When will I know my exact start time?

You can view a schedule for the event weekend right here.

All riders will find out their exact start time approximately 1 month before the event.

What food and drinks will be available at the Rider Pit Stops?

Rider Pit Stops will be well stocked with both sweet and savoury bites, fruit, water and energy products (gels and drink), providing participants with the opportunity to refuel and recharge during their ride. Whilst best endeavours are made to cater for all, if riders have specific nutritional or dietary requirements, we strongly recommend that they bring with them suitable sustenance for their ride.

What do you recommend people bring with them on the day?

We highly advise all riders to carry two water bottles with them at all time. Our Rider Pit Stops will be well stocked but if you have a preferred gel / snack / drink you’re used to training with then it is wise to pack some of these.

Our well-equipped domestiques will be out on the route to help riders, we recommend you bring the basics so you don’t have to wait for one of them. Items such as inner tubes, mini pump, tyre levers and a multi-tool.

ROAD CLOSURES

When can I find out more details about road closures?

Due to the scale and numbers participating in Vélo South, it will be necessary to implement road closures across the full route to facilitate the safe passage of the participants.

The route has been carefully considered and selected through a partnership of all local authorities, emergency services and transport operators to minimise the inconvenience of the necessary road closures. Emergency Services will be operating as usual and the public should use normal protocol in the case of an emergency.

Specific Road Closure information can be found by clicking here.

We will do all we can to provide you with more information on how you can best navigate your way around the road closures. If you have any queries regarding the route and subsequent road closures please email route@velosouth.com.
